Artist's Statement

Themes of conflict, violence, trauma, loss, isolation and depression consistently crop up within my work. These themes are often expressed through personal narrative, taking inspiration from my own direct experience and life events.  I employ in a variety of mediums to capture these themes, including painting, drawing, mixed media, sculpture and video.

I often utilize the human form in my work.  The figure has always held a lot of power for me.  I use the figure as a vessel to articulate whichever themes or moods that are currently occupying my mind.  I am captivated by the endless possibilities, both conceptually and aesthetically, that the figure presents.

While I rely a lot on representational elements, I like to mix in abstraction to help capture those intangible aspects of the human experience that escape pure representation. Forms collide, clash, meld and unify creating confusion or contrast, exposing the nuances of said experience.
